The Origins of Ellesmere Port 1795-1850
The first meeting of the WMS season will be held on Friday 13th September. Please note the change of date to the second Friday in the month for this event.
The Origins of Ellesmere Port 1795-1850 by Judith Beastall
A look at the growth of Ellesmere Port, both the dock and the twon, during the 50 years after the opening of the Ellesmere Canal, on 1 July 1795. Why was a canal built in this area? What was there before the canal? Would there be an Ellesmere Port, without the canal? How did the area change as a result? Who were the men responsible for these changes? All of these questions, and more, will be looked at during this talk.
The Diary page has now been updated to show the 2019 – 2020 Season of WMS Friday evening meetings.
